History: http://clamp.wikia.com/wiki/Subaru_Sumeragi

Presentation: Outwardly, Subaru normally dresses in what ever outfit his sister makes for him. A lot of times, the colors depend on the colors his sister wears, but the style remains the same (at least for the most part.) Black pants, tank top, and shoes; a hat; a jacket; and most importantly, enchanted gloves given to him by his grandmother. She gave him specific instructions to never take them off even in front of his twin sister. While he's always been curious why he needs to wear them, he's never disobeyed her, keeping them on at all times.

As he was growing up, he was conditioned to be the 13th head of the Sumeragi Clan, a clan of onmyouji. They are sworn to protect the people of Japan from spiritual dangers and dark magics, bringing balance to lives everywhere. Despite his powers and responsibility, Subaru remains completely humble, going so far to say that he is just a 'normal onmyouji' and that he shouldn't be treated differently than anyone else.

Many times, clients have questioned his age and gender. Subaru is only sixteen, despite being the head of his clan, and has a young, almost feminine face, exactly like his sister's. He never treats these people rudely, either answering them politely or getting them back on track to talk about the situation on hand. He worries that he looks like he's not fit for his job, but never expresses his concerns, merely filing them away and proving what he can do with his abilities.

Subaru presents himself as very polite and kind. Anyone who truly knows him, can confirm this is how he really is. He loves animals, confessing that he wanted to be a veterinarian when he was younger. While Subaru is quiet and refrained, he has a big heart and cares for the safety of those he's never met.

With those he's close to, Subaru is a bit more expressive, showing a broad range of emotions from happiness, embarrassment, surprise, sadness, and even frustration. He doesn't have many close friends. In the series the only two he's shown really interacting with are his twin, Hokuto and the heir to the Sakurazukamori clan, Seishiro. Even though he shows emotion with them, he's still a bit guarded, not revealing his whole hand at times. It's not to say he's being dishonest or in-genuine. It's more that he's unsure about some of the emotions he's feeling. There are things that are proper for a clan leader to feel and there are things that are inappropriate. While both his sister and Seishiro are trying to show him it's okay to lighten up and feel the entire range of emotions, Subaru struggles with what exactly everything means.

Motivations: Subaru's motivations are very simple. He wants to protect those he loves and he wants to perform his duty as an onmyouji to help as many people as possible.

Subaru loves very deeply. And while he doesn't always say it with words, it's there in his actions. As was stated, Subaru is more expressive with people he feels close to. It's in everything he does; telling them to keep away while he works a job (they come any way some of the time and hold their own when they do), speaking his opinions (because he feels comfortable enough to do so and not be worried he's insulting them), going with them even when he's not in the mood...

The list goes on.

The amount he cares for Hokuto is a given. She's his twin. They do nearly everything together (beyond his work). He accept her for who she is; she's louder than him, more opinionated, more everything and he admires her for it. Things with Seishiro are much more complicated. Both Hokuto and Seishiro tease Subaru endlessly about he and Seishiro dating. While it's teased at and the two go on 'dates', there are never any feeling admitted from Subaru's side even though Seishiro seems very interested in him.

Until Seishiro sacrifices his right eye for him in order to defend him from a blow he was going to take from an insane woman. Subaru spirals into a deep depression, not eating or resting, blaming himself for Seishiro's injury entirely. His emotions spiral out of control. He shows sadness, he shows anger, something not really shown previously by him. His entire world is shattered by someone who causes feelings in him he doesn't understand. And not because of something they've done, but because of something he's done. All he wanted was to protect him, and he's done the exact opposite in his mind.

While Subaru does not love his clients, he does care for them to a degree and does his best to make sure they are happy, whether they are living or dead. He feels their pain. Even spirits who haven't completely revealed themselves, he can tell if the death was a suicide or otherwise with just his senses.

During his jobs, he's always sure to get all of the information he can before he has to resort to any sort of fighting. Even when he's in direct danger, he would rather ensure their safety before his own. He's even protected people who were trying to attack him with dark magics from receiving back lash due to their actions.

Subaru is selfless. His sister says as much to Seishiro. He wants a happy ending, especially for those who have suffered horribly while they were alive. He wants peace and harmony for everyone, whether they were a good person, or someone who maybe did things they regretted. It's the one thing that drives him in his work, and sometimes the thing that brings him the most heartache. Never would he show that heartache to those involved though. He would rather keep it in him, as he feels he has no reason to be sad when he doesn't understand their experiences and trials.

Setting: The Capitol would remind Subaru of Tokyo. The rich night life, the grand parties, the crazy fashion – all of it is so similar to Japan that he might start to feel right at home. Even a stylist wouldn't bother him too much, with how his sister was the one who provided him with outfits. Although, he wouldn't enjoy being forced to go to parties or events, he would tolerate it and be polite to those hosting.

He would hate The Games and everything they stand for.

Hurting anyone, is completely off his agenda. Would he participate? Only because he had to. Would he hurt anyone, even with the knowledge that winning could send him home one day? Not in this life time. The only reason he would fight would be to defend someone else. Other wise, his time in the games is going to largely be composed of running from opponents, or maybe even as time goes on, allowing himself to be killed early on so he wouldn't have to let others suffer, or cause others suffering.

SAMPLES
First Person Thread:

[Subaru gives a look of disbelief. His stomach churns with the thought of having to think about his 'loss' at all. He should be dead, another soul released to the beyond. Instead, they used their science to bring him back. To make him do this over and over and over....]

This...This is sick. How can you do this to people?!

[Silence.

He began to think of Hokuto and Seisiro. Did they notice he was gone? Or did this place somehow manipulate them as well? What if they had them somewhere else and they were doing the same thing to them? His chest tightened, his hand clutching his shirt. He couldn't even think it. It was like a knife, twisting in his chest.

His body shook, letting the emotion pass through him. They weren't here. They weren't here. He closes his eyes, putting his arms to the side to meditate. Despite the quiet beep of the device, Subaru's meditation continues.

When he opens his eyes, the recorder, daunting despite its size, remains in its place. Subaru looks around the medical room to avoid it. Only one way out that is surely blocked by someone or something. Taking a deep breath he picks up the device, turns it on, and speaks quietly into it.]

I'm cold. [A pause.] Alive. Worried. And saddened to know this has happened to so many others. I couldn't wish this upon anyone. Not even those of you who are watching me.

[They never said he had to write a speech on the matter.]

Prose: The emotions were still fresh in his mind, his cheeks still wet with the tears he'd been crying for Seishiro when they forced him into the room after the brief explanation of what he needed to do. The lights were all on him, and above him were people, watching, waiting for him to do something. Some were laughing, some were chit chatting. It didn't feel like he was here to be thrown in to an arena where he'd be forced to fight for his life.

They said he had 10 minutes to prove himself, to give him a chance to prove he could survive. He was hardly a warrior. He was an onmyouji. A spiritual wizard, the leader of the Sumeragi clan. But he was no warrior. Subaru looked around the room, for anything he might be familiar with. His eyes landed on the area with paints. He could paint seals and spiritual traps. But that would hardly prove he could defend himself against others, many of which may be trained to fight with some of these other weapons.

Subaru took a deep breath and closed his eyes. This sorry state was no way to enter a battle arena. Slowly he sat down on the metal floor, easing himself into a meditation. He could hear them, some of them obviously confused by his manners, but he couldn't bring himself to care. His mind needed to be clear. His body relaxed, and his mind eased itself. Hokuto was with Seishiro. She would take care of him.

Green eyes opened and looked to the crowd above him. He stood once more, “My name is Sumeragi Subaru, the 13th leader of the Sumeragi clan. I will not harm anyone for entertainment.”

He searched for some sort of reaction. There was a chuckle, maybe two, but as a whole, he was ignored. His face fell at that, as the soldiers in white came back in to escort him out, saying something about being out of time. Hopefully, he would have time in the arena to figure out how exactly he was going to avoid harming anyone.

Or being harmed himself.

What is your character scored: 4

The odds are a bit stacked against him as his frame is slim, and if he gets too exhausted, he's prone to fevers and loss of consciousness. Subaru is quick though, both physically and mentally.

While Subaru works in a very dangerous industry, he is not particularly strong physically. Subaru mostly deals with magics (summoning familiars, containing spells, seals, powers of the mind, incantations, purification of the body, mind, and soul), and spirits (contacting the dead, exorcisms, bringing spirits peace); physical fighting takes a back seat to most of that. If at all possible, Subaru would rather not fight, normally taking the road of talking and discussing things before they can escalate to a physical level.

Subaru hates seeing anything or anyone in pain physical or otherwise. He believes he can't fully understand their pain because everyone's is different. Despite that Subaru will do whatever it takes to help them, even at the risk of being injured himself.

He could potentially get sponsors though, with his polite and kind outlook on life. He's about as sweet as they get without being overly so, and could win over those in the Capitol easily without even meaning to. Not to mention he wouldn't object to wearing some of their crazy fashions, even if the outfits didn't quite represent him.
